GSE 07-22 eir Retail Survey Results

12/July/2022

Description

In recent months, Branch Reps and CWU Officials conducted a survey of stores to gain an understanding of the issues facing eir retail workers. The survey results have now been collated and are presented in the attached booklet.

The high level of participation in this survey and engagement during the store visits is very encouraging, as it demonstrates the drive from eir retail workers to effect positive change in their workplace.

While the responses were mainly positive a number of issues have emerged from the survey that the Union will take up with the company, including whether contactless payments can be returned and examine how commission/targets are treated as part of annual leave pay.

The work undertaken by Rachel Carton (Dublin No.1 Branch) in her role as a Lead Worker Rep for retail, was crucial in not only ensuring proper safety protocols were in place for members, but to ensure that the union negotiated measures to mitigate against loss of earnings. An average commission payment was secured for the months when footfall was at its lowest.

A key finding of the survey is eir retail workers are keen to establish a Retail Forum with the purpose of addressing common concerns/experiences of working in retail. To ensure that every region is represented, we aim to have at least one member in each area to be part of the Forum. Any member interested in becoming involved, can email their details to Laura in CWU HQ laura@cwu.ie

The power of a union comes from the strength of the members, so it is essential that every eir retail worker is a member of the CWU. Membership forms are available upon request from your local branch or by contacting Laura at the above email address. Union subscriptions are 1% of your basic pay (excluding commission) and information on additional membership benefits is available on our website www.cwu.ie
