GSP 29-20 Worker Director Elections – An Post
22/October/2020
Description
I attach for your information the results on the outcome of the ballot for the 2020 Worker Director Election at An Post.
The CWU wholeheartedly congratulates the five CWU candidates on their outstanding success, thereby ensuring we continue to have five employee representatives on the Board of An Post. The successful candidates in order of election are Martina O’Connell, Frank Burke, Willie Mooney, Anthony Mc Crave and Gerry Sexton. The Union has every confidence they will bring their own individual expertise and knowledge to assist the Board in the major challenges they face. Collectively, operating as a team they will also be a strong force ensuring staff interests and concerns are well represented.
The Union wishes to express commiserations to the unsuccessful candidates John Condon, AHCPS and Leonard Shiels, Forsa. It is regrettable that the Forsa Trade Union took the decision to cease the long-standing arrangement between the Unions whereby the CWU very generously only ran four candidates thus leaving one seat to be rotated among the remaining minority Unions. The result is that the AHCPS have lost a seat on the Board on this occasion while it is now very unlikely that the arrangement will be resurrected in the future with the result that Forsa have squandered the opportunity of a guaranteed seat when the next election comes around. Notwithstanding this, CWU will continue to be the true driving force for staff interests across all areas of An Post. We also wish to take this opportunity to express our thanks to the Company Secretary’s office for the manner in which the ballot was conducted.
Having conducted a professional and extensive campaign the National Executive Council wishes to pay tribute and extend its sincere gratitude, to the Candidates and their Agents, Branch Committees, CWU Regional Officers, Head Office staff and each individual member for their trojan work on behalf of your Union.
It is a testament to the CWU organisation nationwide, during such uncertainty and worry because of COVID -19, that our members participated in such numbers in the election process and supported so decisively the election strategy. Your commitment and support in ensuring the CWU has a strong presence at the Board of An Post is sincerely appreciated.
Please ensure this circular is brought to the attention of all members.
