GSP 10-26 An Post Corporate Centre, Commerce and Retail

15/April/2026

Description

I attach for your information a copy of correspondence from An Post relating to the company review of non-frontline roles in the Corporate Centre, Commerce and Retail.

The outcome of that review includes a targeted reduction of 200 employees from the non-frontline roles over the next two years by:

  • Voluntary Severance programme in 2026.
  • Non replacement of certain leavers, retirees.
  • Review of work activities.

At this point, the Group of Unions have not been provided with the details of the review, the scope of the posts comprehended by the review, the intended posts to be retrenched or the potential staff impact. In the absence of these details, it is not possible to be definitive in respect of the company aspirations as determined by the Board of An Post. Essentially, it appears that a redesign process will apply at company headquarters, primarily impacting managerial and clerical roles in EXO and GPO.

From a CWU perspective, we are amenable to engage on any proposals in this area that impacts members, no different to achieving efficiency measures in all other areas of the company. The National Executive Council is satisfied to do so under the auspices of the Change Agreements and Procedures, with staff impact issues to the fore.

It is my understanding the company intends to shortly launch an expression of interests exercise to ascertain staff interest. A word of caution though in respect of creating expectations, as from previous experiences supply has fallen far short of demand. In any event, the Union’s priority is to ensure sufficient resources to do the necessary work and ensure no adverse impact on members that decide to continue their career in An Post.

A number of issues remain to be finalised in respect of the Clerical/Management stream, and it is the Union’s intention to ensure these are dealt with in advance of implementation of any of the new changes associated with the company proposed corporate review.

We expect engagement on the above shortly with An Post senior management and I will revert to you further with regards to any updates at the earliest opportunity.
