GSG 21-25 Superannuation Schemes eir / An Post
15/December/2025
Description
The An Post Group of Unions (CWU, Fórsa, AHCPS) and An Post concluded an agreement in September for a total pension increase of 7%. An Post immediately, sought approval from the Department in October 2025 to pay the agreed increase.
In respect of eir pensioners, approval to pay the agreed increase of 2.1% effective from the 1st July 2025 was submitted to the Department on the 8th August 2025, with no indication forthcoming either. Indeed, the process of approval is taking longer than for 2024.
Despite ongoing representations by the CWU to the Ministers and the Taoiseach, the response received (copy attached together with my response) stated that ‘it is not possible to set out the specific timeframe within which the decision-making process will be concluded’. This response is entirely unacceptable.
Government failure to act is inflicting unnecessary hardship on the most vulnerable and their dependents, some of whom have passed away while still waiting.
The ongoing and repeated delays of payments to pensioners, compounded by continual re-examination, despite robust processes involving actuaries, trustees, the group of unions and the company itself, causes real hardship to those who have worked all their lives, only to have this process dragged out.
We now need your support in the campaign. Included with the Connect magazine is a postcard to An Taoiseach requesting he expedite the approval by the Department of Communications, without further delay. Please ensure the postcard we have circulated to every member and retired member is sent to An Taoiseach next week.
Our message is simple: our pensioners deserve better from this Government.
