GSG 21-22 Closure of Ulster Bank Accounts

06/October/2022

Description

Ulster Bank have confirmed that they are exiting the market in Ireland and closing all of their Bank Branches. They have advised customers of this and requested they move their business to another bank, before the 8th of October 2022, at which point customers were faced with their accounts being frozen.  They specified accounts will become non-operational once the six-month closure notice period has expired. However, this deadline has been extended for a further four-week period to the 1st November 2022.

Notwithstanding the above, it has come to our attention that some members are already finding difficulty accessing their accounts.  We have been advised they should not be experiencing any difficulty with accounts, so I would ask that you contact your bank helpline if you experience any problems.

Our understanding is KBC has a slightly later targeted time frame to early 2023.

If you are receiving wages by EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) or paying union subs by direct debit through your bank account, we would ask that you update your bank details before the bank close your account.

Enclosed are the bank helplines for your information.
