GSG 15-25 Biennial Conference Standing Orders – Vacancy

20/October/2025

Description

The Union has commenced arrangements for the Biennial Delegate Conference in Sligo in May 2026. Central to conducting the business of conference is the Standing Orders Committee, as provided for in the CWU Rules & Constitution.

The rules stipulate the Standing Orders Committee should comprise (6) members as elected at Conference,

by a card vote. However, since the last conference a vacancy has arisen, which the National Executive Council will fill at its next meeting.

I wish to draw the following to your attention:

  • A Branch may only nominate one of its own members.
  • A member of the Committee is not eligible to be selected as a Delegate to Conference while a member of the Standing Orders.
  • The Committee will meet prior to and during Conference and will report as often as necessary. Their duties include:

(a)       Verify and report on the credentials of Delegates;

(b) Examine Motions and Amendments submitted by Branches and nominations for election and report whether or not they are in order;

(c) Co-operate with Branches submitting Motions and Amendments in order that composite Motions may be obtained and agreed whenever possible;

(d) Prepare Standing Orders for the government of the proceedings of the General  and Sectoral Conferences, submit all decisions of the Committee by way of report to the General Conference for adoption.

Branches are invited to submit nominations for consideration by the NEC, to the General Secretary by Friday, 31st October 2025.
