You will be aware from previous correspondence of the organisational changes as decided by the National Executive Council (NEC), which we are in the final stages of implementation.
Head Office
In respect of Head Office, Laura McKenna, National Officer, has responsibility for eir and Diarmuid O’Connell, National Officer, has responsibility for the Postal Courier Sector with the CWU Regional Officers reporting directly to him. Ian McArdle, Deputy General Secretary retains responsibility for the Clerical stream, supported by John Tansey.
Branch Rationalisation
Implementation of the revised Branch Structures will be completed this weekend, and I wish to again thank all concerned for the smooth transition we have achieved in all areas of our organisation. Preparations are at an advanced stage for the Branch Secretary training seminars (Postal 14th April 2026 and Telecom 16th April 2026), the arrangements for which will be circulated at a later date. Please remember to forward the Secretary and Financial reports 2025 for the old Branch to Head Office.
Branch Mailbox
Branch Mailboxes will align to match the new Branch structure. Where a number of branches have amalgamated, the old mailboxes will be closed and all emails and documentation contained therein, transferred to one single email account for the new branch. In line with existing policy, all communications with the branch will be routed through the Branch Secretary via the branch email account.
Biennial Delegate Conference – Reminder
Separately, we are preparing for the 13th Biennial Delegate Conference 2026, which will be held at The Clayton Hotel, Sligo, on Wednesday 13th & Thursday 14th May 2026.
I wish to remind you of the closing dates below for receipt of nominations etc, which must reflect the new Branch structure.
- Motions: 12 Noon on Friday 6th March 2026.
- Rule Change: 12 Noon on Friday 6th March 2026.
- Amendments to Motions: 4:00pm on Monday 16th March 2026.
- Delegates to Conference: 12 Noon on Friday 6th March 2026.
- Nominees for NEC: 12 Noon on Friday 6th March 2026.
- Nominees for Standing Orders Committee 2028: 12 Noon on Friday 6th March 2026.
We have received a number of requests from Branches for observers to attend which we will review once the numbers possible to accommodate is confirmed when the above process is completed.
Standing Orders Committee:
The Standing Orders Committee 2026 comprising Pat Delaney Chairperson, Paul Darcy, Tom Prendergast, Andrew Keehan, Mick Dineen and Lee Cassells are in place and have commenced their work.
