GSG 03-26 Pension Campaign
06/February/2026
Description
Further to GSG 02-26 Eir & An Post Pension Campaign I write to remind all Branches that we will be holding a rally outside Dáil Éireann on Tuesday, 10th February at 1pm, in support of retired eir and An Post pensioners who are still waiting on Government approval of agreed pension increases. Despite repeated correspondence, the Minister and the Taoiseach have failed to act, leaving pensioners with no option but to escalate publicly.
A strong turnout is essential. This rally is about demonstrating real, visible pressure — showing that working and retired members across the union stand united and will not allow this issue to be ignored any longer. I would ask that you contact retired members in your Branch, encourage attendance, and circulate this information widely. And that non-retired members be encouraged to turn out to support our retired colleagues. This is a key moment in the campaign, and your support in ensuring a strong presence on the day is critical.
If you are unable to attend, we would ask you to contact the Minister at the address/number below. For your convenience, there is a template correspondence included below. Contact from voters— by letter, email, or phone — is particularly effective, and we encourage you to emphasise the importance of fair treatment for retired workers and the need for Government to honour agreed commitments.
For your information:
Patrick O’Donovan
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport
Constituency Address: St. Mary’s Rd, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick

“Hello, my name is [Name] and I live in [Town/Constituency]. I am a member of [Union], and I am contacting you regarding ongoing concerns of pensioners from eir and An Post.
In particular, pensioners are seeking that Government:
- Approve without further delay the agreed increases to retired staff of eir and An Post
- Extend retrospectively, without further delay, the agreed and Ministerial-approved changes to superannuation on health grounds in An Post
These issues have remained unresolved despite repeated engagement and are having a real impact on retired workers. As a union member, I believe it is vital that Government honours agreed commitments and treats pensioners fairly.
I understand that pensioners will be rallying outside Dáil Éireann on Tuesday 10th February to highlight the urgency of this matter, and I am asking that you act now to bring this issue to a just and immediate conclusion.”
