GSE 09-20 Retail Update – Pay Increase/Return to Work/Commission
31/August/2020
Description
Since early March 2020, CWU Officials have met weekly with Eir Retail Management and HR to ensure that during the Covid-19 crisis we maintained all CWU members on the eir payroll and maximised, as far as possible, commission payments even though sales for this were not occurring in most cases. These meetings continue and have moved to fortnightly since the country moved into Phase Three, and all eir stores are now reopened and staff have returned to their normal functions/roles.
Pay Increase
I am pleased to confirm that the rate of pay for retail staff has increased by 2.7% since July 1st. This will be the third increase in retail pay since March 2019.
Retail staff are now included in the collectively bargained pay deals concluded by the union and like last year staff will again see their pay increase in line with the overall pay agreement.
Like before, a portion of the increase will apply to your basic pay so that if targets are met the full 2.7% increase will be achieved with the scope to do better if targets are exceeded.
For example:
Retail Store Consultant Example 1
Base Salary €20,595.00
Pay Increase 1.63% on basic €335.70
Additional Commission if 100% Target achieved €218.20
Total Annual Increase €553.90
Retail Store Consultant Example 2
Base Salary €20,595.00
Pay Increase 1.63% on basic €335.70
Additional Commission if 150% Target achieved €545.51
Total Annual Increase €881.21
Commission based on 250% accumulator if 150% of target achieved
Commission
For the month of June, average commission payments were made. Management have informed CWU that all staff were briefed early in July on changes to the commission structure with the re-introduction of targets and KPI’s. These will be adjusted to take into account the present uncertain retail environment and it is expected that the majority of retail staff should achieve an improvement on average commission.
For clarity, July pay run included average commission (for month of June). From August pay run and going forward, commission will be based on targets/KPI’s etc achieved in previous month. The CWU will continue to review this with management to ensure realistic targets and KPI’s are in place.
Return to Work
The return to work was challenging for many in retail but thankfully this has been achieved in eir without many great problems. Well done to the Covid Compliance Officers and Staff in each store and also the CWU nominated Lead Worker Reps in retail, Brion McArdle and Rachel Carton, for ensuring a safe working and retail environment. Issues, such as the weekly cleaning of the shops, have been raised and resolved with the company this positive engagement is important to ensure the safety of our members and the customers.
Whilst we are back in work and some normality is returning, it is vital that all members stay safe and remain ever vigilant in the continuing fight against this Virus.
