GSE 02-26 eir Pension Approval
27/March/2026
Description
Final approval for the eircom pension increase has now been received by eir from the three relevant Ministers as of March 4th, 2026. We understand that AON/Mercer are making every possible effort to ensure that the 2.1% pension increase, backdated to 1 July 2025, is processed as part of the May 2026 payroll run.
The CWU acknowledges that the delay in securing Ministerial sign-off has been unacceptable. In recent correspondence received from the Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, Charlie McConalogue TD, it has been clarified that this delay was partially the result of a change of departmental responsibilities for the eir pension.
We want to express our gratitude to our members for their ongoing support, particularly to our Retired Members Section for their active participation in our pensions campaign, which culminated in the recent Dáil protest. This protest sent a clear signal that these delays are unacceptable.
The CWU will continue to challenge these unwarranted delays. I recently met with the Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, Charlie McConalogue TD, to identify where the delays are occurring and to seek ways to accelerate progress wherever possible.
Please bring this circular to the attention of all members in your Branch to include Retired Members.
