GSP 22-26 Telematics Update
09/October/2026
Description
I refer to my previous correspondence of 2nd September 2026 in relation to telematics, and I attach for your information some further correspondence from the Company.
The Union has had initial discussions with the Company and as advised there is currently no agreement for the introduction of the proposed technology, and this will not happen until the union has had the opportunity to fully review the matter and engage with Branches for their input.
The first stage of any review is for the Company to carry out a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) which is underway and the outcome will be shared with the Union. A DPIA is risk management process which is carried out to identify, evaluate and minimise privacy risks before launching any project that processes personal data.
The Company has also advised that their current telematics vendor will cease trading early next year and therefore they have a requirement to replace their current telematics technology.
The 300 vehicles which will be deployed for Peak have forward facing camera and AI Sensor capability. However, as we have not reached an agreement yet with the company these functions will not be enabled and the new vehicles will only operate with the same telematics capability as the existing vendor and in line with our existing agreement.
We understand that the introduction of any new telematics features is of serious concern to CWU members, and we will ensure if agreement is reached that all concerns are addressed.
In order to develop a comprehensive policy that protects members, Branches are invited to submit feedback by Friday 23rd October which will form the basis for discussions with company management. The feedback should identify any concerns members may have.
We will of course continue to keep members informed of developments.
