I am delighted to advise you that the National Executive Council has today confirmed the appointment of Mr Ian McArdle, to the position of Deputy General Secretary of the CWU.
Ian has a proven track record with over twenty years’ experience as a Trade Union Official. He joined CWU in 2006 as National Officer with responsibility for Organising and Regulatory Affairs in the postal and telecommunications industries.
During that time, he led the successful ‘Protect our Post’ campaign which involved broad political lobbying, backed by strong public engagement. He subsequently conducted the ‘999’ campaign, which included strike action and secured significant concessions for members at the Labour Court.
In heading up the Organising Department, in consultation with the Executive Council, Ian developed the CWU Organising and Recruitment Strategic Plan, together with mentoring the team of Union Organisers.
Since 2017, he has held responsibility for the eComms sector, representing members in eir, Vodafone, Obelisk, PhoneWatch, and BT.
I am sure you will all join with me in wishing Ian the very best in his new position, in which I have no doubt he will play a pivotal role across all aspects of the Union’s work on behalf of members.
