Payment due to An Post Pensioners

Re:  Payments due to An Post Pensioners

Dear Minister,

At the outset, I wish to offer you my sincere condolences on the recent passing of your mother, Mary.  My thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.

It is necessary that I write to you again as a follow up to my letter dated 23rd June 2022 (copy attached) in relation to the above matter. Regrettably I have not received a reply to that letter and more importantly there is no indication as to when the agreed pension increase will be paid to An Post pensioners. Furthermore, I am aware the Department received the request for authorisation of the payment by An Post at the beginning of May.

Separately, the Company and Group of Unions are due to complete agreement on a review of the pension scheme by the end of September and I am anxious this delay does not become an impediment to that process. Neither do I wish to see any further unnecessary delay to the payments due to approximately 7,000 An Post pensioners since the 1st January 2022.

Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Michael McGrath has advised that all further enquiries rest with your Department and therefore, I request an urgent meeting with you to discuss the matter with a view to securing confirmation of a payment date and to ensure arrangements are put in place to avoid such unnecessary delays going forward. For your information, a further 2% increase will apply from the 1st January 2023.

I look forward to your immediate attention to this matter and your earliest availability to meet.
