Untying Workers’ Hands - a Seminar on the 1990 Industrial Relations Act and Collective Bargaining

08 Feb 2018

The Workers’ Party Trade Union Group is organising a seminar on the continuing challenge posed to trade unionists by the 1990 Industrial Relations Act, as well as the ongoing failure to provide for collective bargaining and the right of workers to be collectively represented by a union of their choice.

The event will see the launch of a document by Dr Daryl D’Art, Untying Workers’ Hands, examining the operation of the 1990 Act and proposing amendments. Dr D’Art’s presentation will be followed by a presentation by Professor Tom Turner on Collective Bargaining : Challenges and solutions in the Irish context.

Daryl D’Art and Tom Turner are well-known academics in the field of industrial relations, and have collaborated on a number of papers and publications examining the role of, and challenges facing, trade unions.

The seminar will take place on Thursday February 15th at 6pm in Wynn’s Hotel, Abbey Street, Dublin 1 and will be chaired by Patricia King, General Secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.
