Commenting on his election as President of the CWU, Mr. O’Connor said: “I want to pay tribute to our outgoing President, Martina O’Connell, who has worked tirelessly to advance the pay and conditions of workers in the communications industry including pay increases across the sector.”

Mr. O’Connor said:  “I will prioritise the CWU’s work in organising workers in their workplace and protecting and increasing union membership among all communications workers, not just in the established companies, but also in call centres, service providers and in the new and emerging parts of the communications sector. Our Union can only continue to be effective as long as we are strong. For trade unions, the ultimate test of strength is through our numbers and how we tactically deploy this strength in disputes and negotiations to advance workers’ pay and conditions.”
