Trade Union Representative

The real strength of any trade union is its members. A workplace rep, or Shop Steward, is a union member elected by his/her colleagues who works with the members to represent their interests with management.

As a Union Rep, you are often the face of the union and it is your task to keep members up-to-date on developments and to liaise between your members and your Branch.

Health & Safety Representative

Under Health & Safety Legislation employees are entitled to select a Safety Rep to represent them on safety and health matters with their employer. The CWU provides training courses which guarantee that Safety Reps have the knowledge and expertise to carry out inspections at work.

The management of your company have a responsibility to make sure that you and your work colleagues are aware of the precautions you must take to minimise the risk of accidents or violence occurring. The CWU can assist you by carrying out inspections of your workplace, and its work practices and systems, in order to ensure that your employer is meeting his/her responsibilities.

Organising Representative

Your union is only as strong as its members and membership numbers enable the union to act effectively on your behalf. High membership numbers mean more influence with management and for this reason it is vitally important that as many of your colleagues as possible are members of the union.

Training for Activists

The CWU provides comprehensive and quality training courses to our Union Activists. This training enables activists to represent members to the best of their abilities and enhances their effectiveness as Union representatives.
